A great place to visit, if you have time to have take in a little history and if you want to take in a nice walking tour, is Jackson Square.

LOCATION

Located in the French Quarter section of Louisiana, Jackson Square is located just off Decatur Street and Jax Brewery. You can also find the French Market complex nearby, as well as the Washington Artillery Park River Overlook.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Open 7 days a week, Jackson Square is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the winter time, the hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m..

WHAT YOU CAN DO HERE

Jackson Square, which is right on the Mississippi River, is a large public square that has a lot of street vendor’s setup alongside it. It has a tall fence that surrounds it, and also a lot of little gardens. There are several walkways and benches where you can sit down, as well. This is one of the top tourist destinations in New Orleans.

If you get hungry, don’t worry Cafe Du Monde is right across the street.

STREETCAR ACCESS

Don’t feel like walking? You don’t have to. Feel free to hop in a riverfront streetcar and get there in no time. Just ask the driver to let you know when you get to Jackson Square. You can also take the carriage ride around the city if you’d like. This is great for people who may be walking with small kids who can tend to tire easily.

There are a lot of fun things for kids in this area, is that they are artists who can create little souvenirs for you and as well as street performers that you can watch.

Jackson Square is actually a famous landmark that was named in honor of Andrew Jackson. Because the square encompass several historic buildings, you can find things like the St. Louis Cathedral here, as well as apartments, old apartment buildings, galleries, retail shops and museums. Because the surrounding area is filled with artists, museums, and merchants, and even individual artists who can draw caricatures for you, there’s plenty to see, and plenty to do.
